WRIGHT FAMILY NEEDS OUR SUPPORT
On January 6th, local sprint musher Kelly Wright’s niece, Daiquiri, age 4, nephew, Christopher, age 2, and their cousins Amber and Matthew where caught in a house fire in Eagle River, AK, while visiting their relatives. Regretfully, Matthew died in the fire and the other three children are in critical condition at Seattle’s Harborview Burn Center. These children recieved terrible burns and have a very long road ahead of them. Although the Shriners and the Red Cross have helped with lodging for the parents in Washington, the costs of transportation and the loss of being able to work while at the children’s bedside is staggering. Daiquiri and Amber will be there for at least two months and Christopher may be there for up to a year. Family members must stay with them. Please say a prayer for these little children and check your smoke alarms at home so that no one else has to go through this tragedy. Eagle River Parks & Rec is offering 2006-2007 Trail Support pins for sale. These pins support our local Chugiak – Eagle River trails so if you ski, skijor, mush, hike, bike, snowshoe, or otherwise enjoy the trails in our area, consider supporting their maintenance by purchasing a pin. An order form is attached and forms also will be available at the clubhouse. They are nice looking pins too!

NOTE:
Four-wheelers will only be allowed on the alternate side from now on. Please refrain from using four-wheelers on the regular (clubhouse) side of the trail system so that the trails can be groomed for sleds.

Attention Trail Users:
As a courtesy to the Chugiak dog mushers, who rely on the trails for training their teams, it is requested that the parking spaces in front of the posts are reserved for vehicles transporting dog teams. All other users are welcome and encouraged to park in the large lot across the road.

Composting Dog Poop
Ever wanted to know about composting all that kennel waste? There has been a study done by Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District. A Pilot Project was started at Martin Buser’s Kennel. Mrs. Tro’s class from Midnight Sun Charter School headed the study. To learn more details on this project click here (PDF)
