Race
Report:
Businessperson’s
Race: This race has been rescheduled for Saturday, March
5th at 3pm. Currently about 6 businesspeople are signed up. Jackie
will contact them to ensure that they can still participate on
the new date. Jackie also is in the process of recontacting businesses
and mushers to recruit additional participants.
Information
also will be provided to the Alaska Star and the Chugiak/Eagle
River Chamber of Commerce about the race.
Eagle
River Classic: This race has been rescheduled for Saturday
and Sunday, March 5th & 6th at 12 noon.
6-dog,
8-mile Race: This race has been rescheduled for Sunday,
March 6th at 10:30am.
These dates
were chosen to provide enough time for businessperson training
and to avoid as much conflict as possible with races such as Fur
Rondy and the IFSS race in Dawson City.
Jo Wood motioned
that these dates be finalized and Jennifer Payne seconded the
motion. All present agreed with the exception of one person.
New Business:
Jackie brought
up several topics. First, she mentioned the issue of Emergency
Preparedness for the club. In the event of an earthquake, damage
to the Eagle River bridge might prevent many people working in
Anchorage from reaching their homes to care for dogs. The club
and its members should consider developing a plan for such a situation.
The club may consider this as a topic for an education program.
Jackie also
brought up the subject of the club co-hosting with the obedience
club a “canine athlete” symposium in Anchorage in
April 2006. The event would be broader in scope than the Fairbanks
sled dog symposium and it would be held at the end of the mushing
season. Jackie has identified a potential keynote speaker and
is in contact with some potential sponsors. The topic will be
discussed further at the next board meeting.
The meeting
adjourned at 7:35pm and Carla Kelly spoke about canine rehabilitation
as part of the Education Program series.
Miscellaneous:
If anyone
finds a yellow GPS device on the trails, please contact the club.
Next
Meeting:
The next board
meeting will be Wednesday, February 9th, at 7pm at the clubhouse.
The next general meeting will be Wednesday, February 16th at 7pm
at the
clubhouse.
