Report on Title 21 (Political Action Committee)

Val Jokela met with representatives from ASDRA, the Animal Control Advisory Board, and Zoning to discuss the Title 21 revisions. Val said that most of the Animal Control Advisory Board attended the meeting and they were generally opposed to the Title 21 proposed revisions. Zoning listened to the issues brought up by the mushers. ASDRA and CDMA will put together a joint response to the proposed changes.

Val has been, and will continue to, attend a series of citizens workgroups on the Title 21 issues and will keep the club informed. Anyone else is encouraged to join the workgroups.

Board Elections
Board nominations closed. Five (5) board positions are expiring this year. In addition, Jim Lindau will be resigning his board position, which expires in 2005, because he has moved to Knik and is unable to be active on the board. Club members will be voting for six (6) board positions. Nine (9) people are on the ballot for the positions, as well as the four (4) current Executive board members, running unopposed.

The election will be held on March 31st, the last Wednesday of the month. Ballots will be mailed out soon. Please return ballots to the club by March 31st or bring your ballot to the meeting.

Mushing 36 (Race Committee)

Our next race will be Saturday, March 13th at 6pm. The Mushing 36 will follow the 20-mile loop onto the inlet trail and include Clunie Lake. The entire race will be on our trails and will not cross onto Fort Richardson land. Kurt Jokela will mark the trail on Saturday. Mary Lou will be race timer and she will identify a race marshal. There is a need for several trail guards in key positions along the trail. No sled holders or road crossing guards are necessary for this race. Trail guards and the trail marking will assist mushers in identifying the trail since several who will be racing are new to our trail system.

Old Business

Grants: The year-end grant report for the Eagle River Parks & Recreation 2003 grant and the revised budget report for the 2004 grant were submitted on March 1st.

New Business

Trail Courtesy: This is just a reminder that we should all be courteous to others on the trail system, where ever you are and whatever the circumstances. The reputation of the club is made up of the actions of each individual member. If you feel someone is using the trail system inappropriately, let someone know or, if necessary, let the person know in a positive, polite manner.

Next Meeting

A general meeting will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at 7pm at the clubhouse. Board elections will be tallied at this meeting.

A general meeting and social gathering will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at 7pm at the clubhouse. This will be a social event to celebrate the successes of all the mushers who have trained and raced this season. If you have participated in a race this year and have some good stories to tell, please join us to share. The club will provide refreshments; members will provide the entertainment.
