Race

Business
Person’s Race – Has no volunteers for organizing.
Harold Capps volunteered to head the effort.
Race
Poster Committee – Someone suggested giving Theresa
Daily a free ad on the poster in appreciation for all of her hard
work on the web site. Val raised the motion and Harold seconded
it. Susan tallied the ads at 30 with 14 paid and 4 free. Other
free ads will be Simplex Grinnel and Anderson Brothers Construction.
An additional 12 organizations still need to pay. AAA Subaru,
Johnson Tire, and Sportshop will not be on the poster this year.
The club agreed to give a free ad to Anderson Brothers Construction
in thanks for the work done during the past year. In addition,
the club will offer free entry to the Business Person’s
Race to Dick Anderson’s wife.
Clubhouse
Committee – The extension on the permit to build
the clubhouse expires at the end of September and no more extensions
are expected. We need a work party to clean up scrap wood and
cut brush along the fence.
Newsletter
Committee – A newsletter should go out soon to
announce the open house in November, the upcoming educational
programs, and to introduce the race rules.
Activities
Committee – The Fall programs will include a talk
by Kourosh and Deanna Partow on October 1st, the new clubhouse
open house on November 5th, and a workshop on making ganglines
and necklines on December 3rd.
Membership
Committee – No report.
Trail
Committee – Need volunteers for a trail clearing
party on Saturday. Bill passed around a signup sheet.
Old
Business:
Race
Rules -- Lexi will bring copies of the latest race rules
to the next meeting.
New Business:
Grant Request
– The grant request is due October 1st. The club asked for
$5,500 last year. Lexi and Jackie will get together with Colton
to put together the new request.
Iditarod
Seminar – Eric Rogers attended an Iditarod-sponsored
seminar on fundraising activities. He will report back to the
group at some point. The club agreed to reimburse Eric for half
or all of the tuition if the information was beneficial to the
club. Val raised the motion and Mary Lou seconded.
Fort
Richardson -- Should the club ask Fort Rich if they can
fill in the tank trap that interferes with the trails? Yes, Val
will send an email to Chuck Canterbury at Fort Rich, discussing
the issue.
Lexi and Stan
Smith both attended the Fort Richardson Fence meeting. Stan recommended
that everyone in the group recruit at least one new member so
we can present strong support through our membership when we offer
our comments about the fence. Martin Buser joined the club while
he was there.
Railroad/Eklutna
Land Issue -- Because the railroad straightened the track
in our area, Eklutna and the Municipality both lost land to the
tracks. As a result of the situation, Eklutna is giving us 13
acres of land. Parks & Rec asked us to provide ideas about
which parcels of land we may want. They will work with Eklutna
to try to fulfill the request. Stan Smith and Jerry Raychel provided
their input to Val Jokela and Lexi Hill and Lexi will take the
suggestions to Parks & Rec.
Miscellaneous
-- Montana Creek Dog Mushers’ web site is www.mcdma.org.
Education
Program:
The education
program was Martin Buser’s “Building a Training Plan
for Distance Racing.” Buser offered tips on training, including
how to work with your dogs and let them know who is in control,
as well as talking about miles run and schedules.
