Race Report:
The Poker Fun Run is set for Saturday, September 24th, with sign-in
at 11am and race start at noon. There is a need for a few more
dealers on the trail. Any training vehicle, motorized or not,
is eligible for this 2-mile run. You can even run on foot with
your dogs. Dog limits – 1 to 16 dogs. Mushers are dealt
five cards along the trail and the best poker hand wins. A potluck
BBQ will take place after the race and lots of prizes are available.
Race Poster:
Ellie has contacted everyone from last year’s poster and
all but six have responded. Carole will contact the remaining
advertisers to check their status. The poster may be done by October
10th.
Political Action:
Dixie mentioned that the final draft of the Chugiak/Eagle River
comp plan is done and the group is working on the land use plan
now. This is the crucial part and a new map will be available
shortly. Nothing from this comp plan is considered in the Title
21 revisions since it has not been finalized yet. Dixie and others
involved would like to have someone else from the club review
the Title 21 draft and provide comments. Dixie sees the outlook
on the entire process as bleak.
The South Fork group is pushing
for a separate plan for Eagle River, much like Girdwood’s.
And the Chugiak Council voted at its last meeting that something
needs to be done. The zoning offered in the new Title 21 is the
worst part.
New Business:
Parks & Rec asks that anyone seeing trail abuse report it
to Parks & Rec.
Ken Pew has a sled he would like
to donate to a junior just starting out in mushing. Contact the
club if you know someone interested.
Rex Jones is the contact person
for anyone interested in wholesale pricing on Red Paw dog food,
straw and/or meats.
Education Program:
Bill Waddell presented the topic “Fall Maintenance: Getting
Your Gear in Order.” He discussed maintenance of snowmachines
and 4-wheelers. Kurt Jokela was unable to attend to present information
about preparing sleds, harnesses, and lines for fall training.
This portion of the presentation will be rescheduled for a later
date.
Next Meeting:
The next general meeting is Wednesday, October 5th at 7pm. A board
meeting will be held at 6:15pm and an education program will be
at 7:30pm.
The education program topic will
be: “How to Train with a 4-Wheeler.” Jerry Raychel
and Susan Wagnon will provide different training perspectives
on training for distance versus sprint racing using a 4-wheeler.
Learn what size and type of ATV works best for training and how
training techniques differ.
