CHUGIAK
DOG MUSHERS ASSOCIATION
General Meeting – October
19, 2005
7 pm at the Clubhouse
Hotline: 689-7899 Website: www.chugiakdogmushers.com
Board Members in Attendance:
Val Jokela – V.P. Jeanne Carlson – Secr.Bryan Bearss
- Don Keller Mary Lou Raychel
The meeting was called to order
7:04pm. Meeting minutes from October 5, 2005 were read and approved.
Don moved to approve, Bryan seconded. All in favor, no discussion.
No treasurer’s report was provided.
Race Poster
The poster is in
draft form and looks good. The one issue that is of some concern
is that there is no race schedule on the poster. The committee
decided that the schedule is so tentative and weather dependant
that listing the club’s web address and phone hotline would
be more practical. Val will contact Ellie about the possibility
of attaching a tear-off schedule of the races and education programs,
and the costs associated with that.
Clubhouse
No asphalt slab has been poured
yet so there may not be a work party this weekend to build the
trash structure. The club will look into the timing of the slab
installation to be sure we don’t lose our certificate of
occupancy again.
Education Program
Dr. Jim Hagee will be presenting
Dog Foot Care at the next meeting. The club discussed topics of
interest to pass along to Dr. Hagee and the possibility of needing
a demo dog for the presentation.
Race Rules
Proposed race rule changes
submitted by members will be disseminated for review to club members
via email on Thursday, October 20th.
Political Action
Val provided an update on
activities. Tom Henry will look at Chapters 1, 7, and 11 of the
revised Title 21 draft. He has experience with the process. He
also will look at the Chugiak/Eagle River comprehensive plan draft.
Part of our trail system (10- and 12-mile
trails) is on Eklutna-owned land and is slated for multi-acre
residential lots in the new plan. Val will talk to Lexi about
what became of the potential land swap that was in the works with
Eklutna a year or so ago.
Trails
There are still people
driving vehicles (both trucks and dirt bikes) on the alternate
side. Bill will weld the gates into place in the next few weeks.
Trail users indicated that some vehicles are coming up over the
berms and gates would not stop them. Everyone is encouraged to
turn in any license plate numbers to Eagle River Parks & Rec
if they see anyone on the trails who shouldn’t be. Someone
suggested posting some signs where trespassers are entering.
Next Meeting
The next general meeting will
be on Wednesday, November 2nd at 7pm at the clubhouse. At this
meeting, we will discuss and vote on any proposed race rule changes.
A board meeting will precede the general meeting, at 6:15pm. An
education program will be presented at 7:30pm. The topic will
be Dog Foot Care.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm.
