Committee Reports

Clubhouse Committee: The grant administrator asked for and received a copy
of our conditional certificate of occupancy.

Trail Committee: Bill Waddell dragged the Inlet trail and the 20-mile, so
that all the trails are groomed. The Chugiak 50 will go out on the 20-mile
trail and come back to finish on the 8-mile or 10-mile. Jerry Raychel will
mark the trail for the race.

Newsletter Committee: Jim Lindau will produce a newsletter as soon as
possible.

Old Business

There was some question about the Junior mushers and whether they receive a
purse if they come in in the top 5 at this weekend's races. They do not.
Also, the question was raised about whether they go out on the second day in
the order they finished on the first. It was confirmed that they do.

New Business

Classic and Businesspersons Races: Ron Kilian asked the group for thoughts
on hosting a catered open house during the Classic and Businessperson Races
on Saturday, January 17th. It was agreed that the drawing for the races
would be held at the clubhouse on Friday, Val Jokela would look into a
caterer for an open house on Saturday during the day, and Jim Welch would
look into reserving space at a local restaurant for the Sunday night
banquet.

Quilt Raffle: The funds from the quilt raffle, held this past summer, were
to be designated for supporting sprint-mushing purses. There was some
thought about adding some of this money to the Classic purse. The Board
will discuss this at its next meeting and bring the ideas back to the
members.

Donation: The $800 donation from Myron Gavin's family might possibly go
toward commissioning a stained glass piece of the club's logo, which Myron
designed. A member said that she could put together an estimate for doing
the project and let the club know. With any funds leftover, the club may be
able to make new signs for the trails. Theresa Daily offered to do the
lettering for the signs.

Races: Several members brought up the issue of people using the trails
during races and interfering with the racers. Several suggestions were
mentioned about dealing with the problem and it was agreed that education
would be the best way to approach with the situation. Several days before
each race, members will receive an email reminder about the race and that
everyone needs to respect the race by staying off the trails until it is
completed. In addition, the club will put up a "RACE TODAY" sign so anyone
arriving at the trailhead will know. The race marshall also will make
announcements throughout the races.

Trophies and purses for last weekend's races were distributed.
Congratulations to all the mushers. See the web site at
www.chugiakdogmushers.com for the results of the races.

Education Program: Kurt Jokela provided in-depth information about making
necklines and ganglines, offering a demonstration and a detailed information
sheet about supplies, line measurements, and tips for cleaning and
maintaining the gangline. Jim Lindau also was on hand to demonstrate
techniques. Thanks to both of them!

Next Meeting

A general meeting will be Wednesday, December 17th at 7pm at the new
clubhouse. Race trophies and purses will be distributed for this weekend's
races.
