The trails have been groomed Junior through 8 mile plus staging area and alternate side Ed's loop. Suitable for ATV's, double-sledding, or slow 3-4 dog teams!
The culverts have been packed with snow - thank you again, Kris Rasey!!
Incoming 10-mile trail has been brushed, kudos to KP, Kris, and Kim Wells.
We packed the entire alternate side: staging area, inlet loop, Dee Lake loop, and all connectors. The trail is bumpy with little snow. The inlet is mostly bare ice but rough enough that dogs shouldn't slip. Other than the 3-mile Ed's Loop, this side is not suitable for sprint teams!
-Jim & Susan Cantor
Packed thru 8 mi. with the help of Kim Wells.
2 mi. Is packed AND rolled
Editor's note: Nasty crust on non-groomed sections of trail - booties recommended!
Trails reopened, all sides. We only got 2” !! But it’s runnable with atvs ! Better than ice!
It's 40 degrees in Chugiak, trails are melting and soft. Please help us preserve what's left by training elsewhere during this warm spell.
Trails remarkably smooth for ATV training - thank you Kris, KP and Scott for keeping them like a highway. The 8 mile hill (home-bound) is an icy freefall. I removed two small downed trees between the top of the 8 and 10 mile turn. There are 2 chunks of ice frozen into the inlet trail, probably need to reroute the trail.
Kris and Scott Maruskie packed trails in the staging area, Junior trail, Gee-haw trail, and 8 miles of the main trail system. The trail is still very bumpy between the 6-8 mile trails. ATVs are still allowed on the trails until further notice. Hopefully we will get more snow by the end of the week.
The 2/3 mile loop, staging area, and outbound Junior loop were structured last night. Kp & I ground up the ice and it should be runnable with an ATV. Gee-haw and 4 mile were NOT groomed.
We also drug the alternate side including the staging area, Ed's Loop, and the upper trail to Dee Lake. The lower trail along the lake from Ed's Loop to 5 mile was not groomed as it was very rough earlier. Stay on upper trail and lollippop return.
I recommend that all vehicles on the trails have chains.
Editor's note: The groomers spent almost 10 hours grooming trails last night. Please let them know how much you appreciate their efforts!
2-3-kiddy and 8 from cut through are open. We have a weather roller coaster for the next 6-8 days. Please do not use the trail if the temperatures are above freezing. Thank you. Kp
Kris groomed the Jr.,Gee Haw,2-8 mi. Trail is set up hard. Took multiple passes to get ruts out. Part of stage area was also done. THANK YOU Kris!
